City provides Glencoe Days a helping hand
Glencoe Days received a significant amount of support from the city council Monday evening, June 3, in the form of waived permit fees and city staff time at no cost.
The council OK’d with no discussion waiving the parade permit fees for the 50th Anniversary Glencoe Days June 20-23 at Oak Leaf Park. The city agreed to donate staff time from the city’s parks department in setting up and tearing down at Oak Leaf Park, approval of the beer licenses for the two-day community festival, extending the park hours to 12:30 a.m., waiving the amusement license for amusement rides that will be in the gravel parking lot on the south side of Oak Leaf Park, and waiving the fireworks permit. The city also provides support for the festival from city police.
The city does not charge for permits for a parade or pyrotechnics. The charge for a carnival is $3 per day based on an 1895 ordinance. The beer license for non-profit organizations is $25 per day.
Staffing represents a slightly costlier contribution.
Park and street department assistance costs $1,500 to $2,000. The city tries to use less expensive seasonal workers as much as possible, said City Administrator Mark Larson.
