City reminds property owners to tend to their sidewalks
To the extend possible, the City of Glencoe wants homeowners and business owners to tend to the public sidewalks in front or alongside their homes and businesses.
It is, after all, a city ordinance.
While the city recognizes the current weather conditions makes cleaning sidewalks down to the pavement a difficult task, the city wants property owners to make an effort to keep sidewalks clean and safe to walk on.
But the recent stretch of weather rolling through the area has tested the ability of property owners to meet the city’s ordinance. Many sidewalks in the community have a layer of ice on them expected to be snow covered this week.
City Administrator Mark Larson said the primary emphasis is sidewalks in the downtown area. Pedestrians more heavily travel those sidewalks, he said. The city’s concern is the safety of pedestrians.
