City weighs Lazy Loon’s request for tax abatement
With the higher-than-expected costs of an expanded kitchen and restrooms impacting plans to transform a formerly vacant building into a brewery and restaurant, the Glencoe City Council is considering a request for property tax abatement.
The council directed City Attorney Mark Ostlund Monday, July 15, to draft a property tax abatement agreement that would provide the Lazy Loon $13,697 in tax abatement over five years. The proposed agreement will be considered at the council’s Aug. 5 meeting. It will include a provision stating the business at 610 13th St. E. will not receive the abatement if the business is sold or closes.
