County board seeks to ‘preserve the constitutional rights of citizens’

The McLeod County Board took a second stab at a resolution intended to uphold and defend the constitutions of the United States and the State of Minnesota and the Bill of Rights in response to Gov. Tim Walz’s executive orders at its meeting June 16.
The item was tabled at the request of County Attorney Mike Junge at the June 2 meeting.
The resolution, written by Commissioner Ron Shimanski, originally stated, “Now therefore, be it resolved that McLeod County does hereby affirm and resolve to uphold the Constitution of the State of Minnesota, The United State Constitution and the “Bill of Rights” and further affirms that executive orders of the State of Minnesota that here in after are in conflict with the Constitutional rights of citizens shall have no force and effect within the geographic boundaries of McLeod County, Minnesota.”
