Cross-country girls take third; boys take seventh at D.C. Invite
Panther girls and boys cross-country runners were in Collinwood Park in Cokato for the Dassel-Cokato Invite Tuesday, Sept. 24. The girls took third place among eight teams while the boys finished seventh with the same amount of teams competing.
GSL’s Connor Hallaway, a sophomore, and Kendall Guerrero were the top runners for the GSL boys and girls. Hallaway posted a time of 17 minutes and 46 seconds, earning him fourth place overall among the boys, and Guerrero finished in 21 minutes and 18 seconds, securing fifth place overall among the girls.
Hallaway has been fighting a stomach bug for the past few weeks, an issue that has “pretty much resolved,” according to Head Coach Jeff Delwiche. He said his top runner ran well but was most likely under 100 percent, and added that it’s fortunate Hallaway is recovering now as opposed to later in the season. If Hallaway was getting the same bug during the section meet — a crucially important meet to get to state — he wouldn’t have another opportunity to qualify for the state meet.
