Donald Jasperson

Donald Wayne Jasperson, 85, of Dassel, died Oct. 9, 2017, at Augustana Lakeside Care Center in Dassel.
The funeral service was held Friday, Oct. 13, at Good Shepherd Free Lutheran Church, Cokato, with interment in the Glencoe City Cemetery.
Mr. Jasperson was born Nov. 11, 1931, to Harold and Evelyn (Helgemo) Jasperson. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Tracy. He was one of two people in his confirmation class to profess his faith in front of the congregation.
He graduated from Tracy High School in 1949 and was united in marriage to Nancy Whipple on July 30, 1950. Four children were born to this union — Terri, Donna, David and Molly.
Mr. Jasperson worked for J.C. Penney in Tracy and LeMars, Iowa, before being transferred to Marshall, where he became the assistant manager. In 1968, the family moved to Appleton, where he became the manager. The couple owned and operated Jasperson’s Department Store in Appleton for several years. In 1982, they moved to Glencoe, where Mr. Jasperson was the executive director of the Glencoe Area Chamber of Commerce.
On Oct. 6, 1990, he was united in marriage to Barbara Shipp Bruns in Glencoe.
Mr. Jasperson loved fishing and dreamed of living on a lake, so when they retired they sold their house and lived by the lake near Cokato during the summer and spent many winters in Arizona. In 2013, they moved to Dassel. Mr. Jasperson still went to Glencoe once a week for coffee with the guys.
Throughout the years, he was an active church member as a Sunday school teacher and as an usher. He also was a Cub Scout leader. He was a member of Good Shepherd Free Church in Cokato.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; children, Terri Ebert of Luverne, David (Jan) Jasperson of Rochester and Molly (Kurt) Schmidt of Stewartville; grandchildren, Jeff Barney of Minneapolis, Leah (Ryan) Frantzen of Langley, Mirren and Cohen of Woodbury, Katie (Matt) Mostad, Charlie and Ingrid of Luverne, Sarah (Paul) Zebe, Daphne and Gage of Adrian, Amanda (Eric) Lammert of Luverne, Emily Jasperson of Rochester, and Stephanie and Luke Schmidt of Stewartville; Barbara Jasperson’s children, Terri (DeWayne) Hanson of Glencoe, Randy (Charlotte) Bruns of Glencoe and Lisa (Brian) Hayes of St. Louis Park, and their children and grandchildren; sister-in-law, Irene Jasperson; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy; daughter, Donna Barney; parents; and brother, Bernard Jasperson.
Arrangements were with the Swanson Peterson Funeral Home in Cokato.
