Elva Schuft, 100, of Hutchinson

Elva D. Schuft

Elva D. Schuft, 100, of Hutchinson, passed away Saturday, Jan. 8, at the Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson.
A funeral service was held Thursday, Jan. 13, 11 a.m., at Grace Lutheran Church in Hutchinson with interment in Oakland Cemetery in Hutchinson.
Pastor Greg Tobison was the officiating clergy.
Jon Wheeler was the organist.
“ I’m But a Stranger Here,” “Abide With Me” and “Rock of Ages” were the congregational hymns.
Tiffany Halligan, Carla Cullen, Sara Nielsen, Kelly Geehan, Beth Schuette, Justin Schuft and Colin Schuft were the honorary casket-bearers.
Tim Halligan, Todd Nielsen, Melissa Wing, Kara Scheid, Jordan Schuft and Corey Breyer were the casket-bearers.
Elva Daisy Bertha Schuft was born July 30, 1921, in Cedar Mills Township, Meeker County. She was the daughter of Charles and Elsie (Dallman) Schroeder. Elva was baptized as an infant and later confirmed in her faith as a youth at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Cedar Mills Township. She received her education at country school in Corvusa.
On July 20, 1941, Rev. A.C. Krueger united Elva in marriage to Arnold Schuft at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Cedar Mills Township. This marriage was blessed with five children, Jan, Connie, Charles, Butch and Gaylen. Elva and Arnold resided in Gaylord, and later moved to Hutchinson. They shared 30 years of marriage before the passing of Arnold in 1970.
Mrs. Schuft was employed at H.C. Christian Milk Plant in Hutchinson, Tonka Toys in Mound, and Hutchinson Medical Center in Hutchinson. She retired in 1988. Elva was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Hutchinson.
Elva enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, puzzles, baking, and gardening. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren and friends.
Elva passed away Saturday, Jan. 8, at Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson, at the age of 100 years. Blessed be her memory.
Elva is survived by her children, Jan Breyer and her husband, Ernie, of Glencoe, Connie Nielsen and her husband, Tom, of Hudson, Wis., Charles Schuft and his wife, Linda, of New Germany; daughters-in-law, Shari Schuft of Glencoe, Loretta Schuft of Woodbury; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Schuft is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Elsie Schroeder; husband, Arnold Schuft; sons, Gaylen Schuft and LuWayne Schuft; grandson, Clark Halligan; sisters, Evelyn Schmeling and Ruth Lietzau; son-in-law, Tom Halligan.
