Fairfax man trapped under mower, dies
A rural Fairfax man died Friday, Aug. 25, when his lawn mower apparently rolled on top of him. The accident was reported at 1:29 p.m., and occurred near a farm site in the 46000 block of 670th Avenue, about three miles north of Fairfax.
According to the Renville County Sheriff’s Office, first responders arriving on scene discovered a riding lawn mower with an unresponsive male trapped underneath. He was identified as Dennis M. Blumhoefer, 67, of rural Fairfax. Once the lawn mower was removed, life-saving efforts began. Despite those efforts, Blumhoefer was declared deceased at the scene.
A preliminary investigation indicates that Blumhoefer was cutting grass near a road ditch and at some point became trapped under the mower and was unable to free himself. The accident remains under investigation.
Assisting at the scene were the Fairfax Ambulance Service, Fairfax Fire and Rescue, Renville County Sheriff’s Office and Life Link III air ambulance.
