Football falls again, loses to Cardinals
Despite a valiant effort, the Glencoe-Silver Lake football team lost its fifth consecutive game with a 21-0 defeat against visiting Annandale – the eighth-ranked team in Class AAA – on Friday, Oct. 12.
A scoreless first quarter was highlighted by a goal line stand from the GSL defense, which kept the Cardinals at bay from the one-yard line and forced a turnover on downs.
The Panthers’ best offensive thrust of the contest immediately followed, with GSL driving from the shadow of its own goalposts all the way to the Annandale 29-yard line before stalling and giving the ball back over to the Cardinals on downs.
From there, it only took one play for the visitors to take the lead for good as a 71-yard touchdown run up the eastern sideline put Annandale up 7-0.
The score remained 7-0 into halftime before the Cardinals briefly appeared to score on an 85-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to open the third quarter.
That play was called back due to a penalty.
