Francis ‘John’ Jilek, 90, of Glencoe

Francis "John" Jilek

Francis “John” Jilek, 90, of Glencoe, died Saturday, June 23, 2018, surrounded by his family, at his home in Glencoe.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, June 29, at Church of St. Pius X in Glencoe with the Rev. Anthony Stubeda officiating. Mary Ann Thalmann was the pianist and Shari Templin was the song leader. Musical selections were “Here I Am, Lord,” “Servant Song,” “On Eagle’s Wings,” “Prayer of St. Francis,” “Mine Eyes Have Seen the Glory” and “Song of Farewell.”
Military honors were by Glencoe VFW Post 5102. Brian Jilek, his son, was the urn bearer. Honorary urn bearers were Mr. Jilek’s grandchildren. Interment will be at a later date in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls.
Francis “John” Jilek was born Aug. 31, 1927, in Rich Valley Township, McLeod County, to Frank and Frances (Bednar) Jilek. He was baptized at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Silver Lake, and confirmed in his faith as a youth at St. George Catholic Church in Glencoe. He received his education in Glencoe, graduating with the Glencoe High School class of 1945. He entered active military service in the U.S. Navy in 1945, and received an honorable discharge in 1949.
On May 10, 1952, he was united in marriage to Rosina Fiecke at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. They made their home in Glencoe, and their marriage was blessed with four children, Rhonda, Vicki, Michelle and Brian. They shared over 66 years of marriage.
Mr. Jilek worked at Green Giant in Glencoe as a field representative for 38 years, retiring in 1991. He was a faithful member of Church of St. Pius X in Glencoe, where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus and held the position of secretary. He served on the St. Pius X Catholic School Board and also was a charter member of the church council for the Diocese. He was on the Glencoe hospital board for 10 years, the Glencoe Fire Department and was a member of Glencoe VFW Post 5102.
He was a hard worker and a loving, generous and sociable man. He enjoyed playing cards with a card club that he belonged to for over 50 years, dancing and fishing. He loved driving around the countryside and checking out the fields and traveling, especially all through Europe. He also was very interested in genealogy and was an avid reader. He cherished the time spent with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Rosina Jilek of Glencoe; daughters, Rhonda (Greg) Eurich of Mound, Vicki (H. Thomas) Robb of Shorewood and Michelle (Matt) Aikins of St. Paul Park; son, Brian (Patricia) Jilek of Glencoe; grandchildren, Laura (Cody) Westphall, Angie (Robert) Stevens, Brenda (Ryan) Prich, Shawna (Jeremy) Olson, Trevor Robb, Courtney Eurich (partner Rolando Ochoa), Haley Aikins, Daniel Aikins, Frank Jilek and Evelyn Jilek; great-grandchildren, Jayden Westphall, Sven Olson, Molly Stevens, Savanna Ochoa, Harper Olson, Madison Prich, Bryce Westphall, Charlie Stevens and Reece Westphall; sister-in-law, Alice Jilek of Glencoe; half-brother, Gerald (Karen) Zajicek of Hutchinson; half-sister, Mary Jo McKenzie of Shakopee; half-sister-in-law, Laurina Zajicek of Glencoe; nephews, nieces, other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Jilek and Frances Jilek Zajicek; stepfather, Henry Zajicek; granddaughter, Jaclyn Robb; great-granddaughter, Ivy Stevens; brother, Raymond Jilek; half-brothers, Joseph Zajicek and Henry Zajicek; and brother-in-law, Allen McKenzie.
