Gene John Hormann, 67, of Glencoe

Gene John Hormann, 67, of Glencoe, died Friday, May 29, 2015, at his home.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 5, at First Evangelical  Lutheran Church in Glencoe. The Rev. Daniel Welch officiated. Dawn Wolter was the organist. Soloist Justin Rierson sang “The Lord’s My Shepherd.” Congregational hymns were “I Know That My Redeemer Lives” and “Abide With Me.”
Casket bearers were Allan Haas, Paul Haas, Tim Pofahl, Arlan Brinkmeier, Mitchell Dammann, Matt Scharping and Jim Grages. Interment was in the First Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery in Glencoe.
Gene John Hormann was born Jan. 10, 1948, in Glencoe. He was the son of John and Ramona (Brinkmeier) Hormann. He was baptized as an infant on Feb. 1, 1948, by the Rev. Alf. Streufert and was confirmed in his faith as a youth on March 26, 1961, by the Rev. A.H. Fellwock, both at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe. He received his education at Glencoe High School and graduated with the class of 1965. He furthered his education at Mankato Technical School with a degree in mechanical repair, refrigeration and heating systems, and later attended Hutchinson Technical School and earned a business associate degree.
On Aug. 1, 1982, he was united in marriage to Sandy Kay Haas-Otto by Harold E. Pranschke at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe. They made their home in Glencoe and shared over 32 years of marriage.
Mr. Hormann worked for 20 years as a boiler engineer for McLeod County. He also was a farmer and owned and operated Champion Auto in Glencoe. He was currently self-employed, owning Gene’s Storage. He was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe, where he served as an usher, trustee and was on the stewardship board.
Mr. Hormann enjoyed racing cars, motorcycles and snowmobiles in his younger years. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching nature and gardening. He loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Sandy Hormann of Glencoe; stepson, Sam (Tonia) Otto of Hutchinson; stepgrandchildren, Stephanie Harrell (significant other Russell Bailey) of Willmar, Mike Harrell (special friend Brittany Lowinske) of Springfield, and Austin Harrell of Hutchinson; stepgreat-grandchildren, Cahleah and Connor Harrell; sister, Darla Fromstein of California; sisters-in-law, Susan Murphy of California and Lois (Tim) Scharnhorst of Bismarck, N.D.; brothers-in-law, Allan (Christine) Haas and Paul (LeeAnn) Haas, all of Norwood Young America; nephew, Justin Fromstein of Arizona; nieces, Samantha Fromstein of California, Desiarae Hass and Jasmin Haas of Norwood Young America; other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ramona (Brinkmeier) Hormann; father-in-law, Arvid Haas; mother-in-law, Pearl Haas-Brueserhoff; brother-in-law, Lyndon Haas, sister-in-law, Sheryl Haas, grandson, Ethan Otto; and stepgreat-granddaughter, CeAnna Harrell.
