Girls’ basketball looking forward to tough WCC

With just two weeks in the books for Panthers’ girls basketball players, Head Coach Jeff Monahan said things have been going great for the team so far, especially the last practices of the week last Thursday and Friday.
“I thought Thursday’s and Friday’s practices were really good. The girls are getting sharper and continue to work hard,” Monahan said.
At practice, Monahan said he runs the practice with “skills and drills” the majority of the time — an approach he’s taken in the past and will continue with. The girls will also make anywhere from 100 to 125 threes every day among two groups. They then do the same within the 12- to 15-foot range, making the same amount of shots.
Monahan expects his squad to be competing with the best of the conference “every night we step on the floor,” despite a young and largely inexperienced team, returning only two seniors.
But the seniors are providing leadership nonetheless, continuing to work hard and help the younger players find their bearings. For example, at their first practice, Monahan was using one of his seniors to showcase dribbling drills to the rest of the team.
