Glencoe church Thanksgiving is community get-together

The warmth filling the lower level of First Congregational Church in Glencoe tomorrow will not entirely be the coming from the church’s kitchen. The Thanksgiving Day meal that’s been served at the church since 1992 generates a sense of community that warms the hearts of volunteers.
The annual Thanksgiving Day meal is open to anyone in the community at no cost, said Barb Magnuson, a longtime organizer of the event. Donations to the McLeod Emergency Food Shelf will be accepted.
The meal will be served at noon. The meal will be a customary turkey and ham Thanksgiving dinner with plenty of the traditional side dishes. A team of volunteers, 12 to 15 youth and adults from churches in Glencoe, began work preparing the meal.
The group will cook six 10- to 12-pound turkeys as well as hams. Large roasters will be filled with potatoes, stuffing, sweet potatoes and green bean casserole. There will be relishes and pumpkin, chocolate, pecan and apple pies.
