Gordon S. Curtiss, 58, of Hutchinson

Gordon Curtiss
Gordon S. Curtiss, 58, of Hutchinson, died Saturday, Aug. 22, 2015, at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud.
 
Funeral services were held Thursday, Aug. 27, at Faith Lutheran Church in Hutchinson, with interment in Oakland Cemetery in Hutchinson. The Rev. Dave Wollan officiated. Bev Wangerin was the organist and Karna Jereska was the soloist for “I Can Only Imagine.” Congregational hymns were “Amazing Grace,” “How Great Thou Art,”  “In the Garden” and “On Eagle’s Wings.” 
 
Casket bearers were Ryan Schmidt, Blake Schmidt, Cory Schmidt, Jason Curtiss, Jeremy Curtiss and Theodore Aschoff. Honorary casket bearers were Sheldon Crouse, Michael Blake, Gene Schmidt, Gregory Plath, Daniel Plath and Timothy Plath.   
 
Military honors were by the Hutchinson Memorial Rifle Squad. 
 
Gordon Scott Curtiss was born June 2, 1957, in Minneapolis. He was the son of Sheldon and Joan (Crawford) Curtiss. He was baptized as an infant, and was confirmed in his faith as a youth in 1973 at Christ The King Lutheran Church in Hutchinson. He received his education in Hutchinson and was a graduate of the Hutchinson High School class of 1976. 
 
Mr. Curtiss entered active military service in the U.S. Army on June 18, 1975, in Minneapolis and served his country during peace time in Hawaii. He received an honorable discharge on June 16, 1978, at Oakland Army Base in Oakland, California. He reenlisted in the U.S. Army on Dec. 22, 1981, in Minneapolis, and served his country during peace time in Wurzburg, Germany. He received an honorable discharge on Dec. 18, 1984, at Fort Dix in Burlington County, New Jersey. Following his discharge, he remained active in the military reserves.
 
On June 16, 1979, Mr. Curtiss was united in marriage to Sandra “Sandy” Blake at Faith Lutheran Church in Hutchinson. Their marriage was blessed with three children, Daniel, Cynthia and Anthony. Mr. and Mrs. Curtiss resided in Hutchinson and shared 36 years of marriage.
 
Over the course of his lifetime, Mr. Curtiss worked for a feed mill in Hutchinson and Darwin, drove trucks for Bartels Truck Line, Inc., in Winthrop and R&J Trucking in Litchfield. He also did some well drilling for LTP Enterprises, Inc., in Hutchinson. Most recently, he was employed by Seneca Foods in Glencoe as a forklift driver. 
 
He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Hutchinson.
 
Mr. Curtiss enjoyed fishing, playing cards and board games, cribbage, wood cutting, working on cars, ice fishing and going to garage sales. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren and friends.
 
He is survived by his wife, Sandy Curtiss of Hutchinson; children, Daniel Curtiss and special friend, Larissa Strey, of Hutchinson, Cynthia (Michael) Bjorge of Homestead, Florida, and Anthony Curtiss of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Dominick Curtiss, Lola Strey, Lillian Curtiss, Braiden Bjorge, Madyson Bjorge and Curtiss Bjorge; mother, Joan Curtiss of Hector; brother, John (Vickie) Curtiss of Dassel; sister, Barbara (Gary) Sheesley of Bonifay, Florida; mother-in-law, Mildred Blake of Hutchinson; and many other relatives and friends.
 
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, James and Anna Crawford and Homer and Ruth Curtiss; father, Sheldon Curtiss; father-in-law, Willis Blake; niece, Kimberly Miller; and numerous other relatives.
