Grace Bible Church to celebrate 125th
On Sunday, Sept. 18, the Grace Bible Church of Silver Lake will have its 125th anniversary celebration.
The special day will include a 9:30 a.m. worship service, a catered meal beginning at 11:30 a.m., and a one-hour special celebration program beginning at 1:30 p.m., which will conclude with a dove release, followed by coffee and cake. The public is invited to attend. Those interested in making reservations for the meal can do so through the church website: www.silverlakehurch.org.
The church, which began in 1891, was primarily composed of those of Bohemian (Czech) descent. Grace Bible Church is Bible-centered, non-denominational (it is not a part of a denomination), and has a congregational form of government by which church members elect a church board, various committees, and treasurers that serve in the church.
Over the 125 years a total of only 10 pastors have served the congregation. Two of the 10 are still alive: the Rev. Donald Martin, who served from 1961 to 1989, and Dr. Tom Rakow, 1989 to the present.
