Grapplers sixth in Invite

The Glencoe-Silver Lake/Lester Prairie wrestling team opened the 2018 season by hosting the annual Don Hall Invitational at GSL on Saturday, Dec. 1.
Eleven teams took part on the varsity level, with the Panthers finishing sixth by posting a score of 73. Zumbrota-Mazeppa won the Invite with a score of 168.5.
Individually for GSL/LP, Carter Ruschmeier led the way by taking first place at 126 pounds. The freshman defeated Z-M junior John Poulin 3-1 in the title match to claim the weight class.
Zachary Voelz placed third at 145, the sophomore concluding his day by pinning Wabasso’s Josh Hasse in the third-place match.
Senior Cody Rae placed fourth at 170, with Jace Cacka (120), Sawyer Varpness (132), Keegan Lemke (160) and Riley Butcher (182) all placing fifth.
Junior varsity results were not available.
This week is a busy one for the Panther matmen. The team travels to Sibley East for a quadrangular against Delano, St. Clair and the Wolverines at 5 p.m. Thursday, with a tournament at Chanhassen at 9 a.m. Saturday.
GSL/LP returns home for a dual meet against BOLD on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
