GSL Schools will face fiscal challenges in the year to come

To the editor,
Happy New Year, GSL.
As we take time to reflect on 2018, I can’t help but be very excited and optimistic about 2019.
At GSL, we have a lot of great things going on and will continue to work hard to improve on the programs that are already in place. With the new year upon us, it is important to take time to reflect and to appreciate the school and the culture we have and what we are building.
We are striving at GSL to embrace all learners, create well-rounded citizens and to be respectful in all that we do. This is an awesome challenge, but one that we all take responsibility in. Our students are the most important asset in our school, and all decisions need to be made with them in mind.
With that said, we must also stay within a budget that constantly challenges us to create that balance of programs and services for our students while staying fiscally responsible. Looking ahead to the end of 2019, we will once again have a very important vote with our operating levy.
The current levy will expire at the end of the fiscal year 2020. The revenue that is created within this levy allows us to continue to find that balance of programs and services with our budget. Our student needs continue to expand, career paths continue to widen, and revenues need to be stretched. This challenge or balance is what we do on a daily basis, and it doesn’t happen without the support of our district members.
Thank you all for your continued support of GSL and our students. Here’s to a great 2019.
As always, please give me a call or email if you ever need to talk or have a question that needs answering. You can email me at csonju@gsl.k12.mn.us or call reach me at 320-864-2498.
