GSL Alumni Spotlight: Malayh Metcalf, Cross-Country/Track and Field, St. Thomas
Malayh Metcalf ran her way
into the record books at GSL. The
five time cross-country and track
All-Conference honoree smashed
GSL school records in the 800,
1600, and four by 200 meter
races. She was also a five time
state qualifier in cross-country
and took 5th place in the 800-meter
dash at the track and field state
tournament her senior year of
2022.
In the fall of 2022, Metcalf
took her running prowess to the
newly minted division I St.
Thomas to compete in both cross country
and track. As part of St.
Thomas’s transition from division
III to division I, all athletics are
not allowed to compete in
postseason activity until their probationary
period is over, which
will be after Metcalf has graduated.
“It didn’t weigh into my decision,”
Metcalf said when asked
if not being allowed to run in the
NCAA regionals had any affect
on her college decision-making
process. Instead, Metcalf focuses
on the ability to compete at a high
level and set
goals for herself at the conference
meet.
