GSL FFA members compete at state convention
Things have been very busy for the GSL FFA chapter as the school year is finishing up. The GSL FFA chapter participated in three events this spring, which included the FFA Career Development Day at South Dakota State University on April 14, the State Convention from April 23-25 at the University of Minnesota, and Urban Ag Day at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds on May 9-10.
The Career Development Day at SDSU was successful for GSL FFA. The chapter saw their dairy evaluation team (Mackenzie Mealey, Kalley Christen, Brielle Christen, and Sam Becker) and the general livestock team (Bailey Brelje, Grace Schultz, Allie Willcox, and Michael Albers) advance to state.
GSL FFA had 56 of its members compete at the state convention at the University of Minnesota. Braxton Rose and Brooke Albers received their state degrees, Albers being the first student from Lester Prairie to get her state degree.
Four members went to state for their proficiency: Afton Nelson placed first in dairy production, Owen Schauer placed second in ag services, Sam Becker placed third in goat production, Kyle Hagen placed third in diversified crop production.
Three chapter teams placed in the top 10 in the state including the ag sales team (Anna Sievert, Grady Schuft, Ava Ranzau, and Emma Salisbury) placed second. Ag issues team (Owen Schauer, Braxton Rose, Maelee Streufert, Jayden Schafer, Kian Mohan, Matthew Schmeig, and Sam Becker) placed second. Conduct of chapter meetings team (Brielle Christen, Samantha Mattson, Halle Hoemberg, Lily Brelje, Aby Smith, Landen Matheny, and Grady Schuft) placed fourth.
20 members from the GSL chapter attended the Urban Ag Day at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds on May 9-10 where members educated local students about animals, food, and equipment.
