GSL girls fall to Tri-City

It wasn’t the kind of start to the season that the Glencoe-Silver Lake girls’ basketball team had hoped for. The Panthers lost a home opener for the first time since 2015, dropping a 79-68 decision to visiting Tri-City United.
The Titans led nearly from the start, and held a 37-27 edge on the hosts at halftime. TCU increased its advantage to 13 points early in the second half before the Panthers rallied.
GSL bore down the Titans’ lead over the middle minutes of the second half. The hosts briefly tied the score at 54-54 after a pair of three pointers from guard Miah Monahan with just under nine minutes to play.
However, the Panther uprising did not last. TCU was able to rebuild its 13-point edge in the final moments before one last basket from Monahan finished off the night with GSL suffering the 11-point defeat.
Monahan led all scorers with 31 points, 10 more points than any other player on the court.
Fellow guards Olivia Lemke and Alison Kettner recorded 12 and 11 points, respectively.
The Panthers looked to net win No. 1 when the squad traveled to St. Peter on Tuesday, Dec. 4, after the Chronicle went to press.
The Saints won their season opener last week, 60-40, at Mayer Lutheran.
GSL remains on the road this week with a Friday night game at Martin County West.
The Panthers return home to face Delano at 7:30 p.m. next Tuesday.
