GSL musicians shine at state-section

On April 1, 100 members of the Glencoe-Silver Lake (GSL) High School bands and choirs participated in the state-section solo/ensemble contest at Minnesota State University – Mankato. This contest is sponsored by the Minnesota State High School League and allows students to perform instrumental and vocal solos and small ensembles before a certified adjudicator.  
GSL band events were awarded the “Best in Site” awards for all four sites in which they had entries.
Receiving superior ratings for band solos were:
Brandi Pikal, baritone saxophone solo; Leah Bettcher, bassoon solo; Dan Cross, snare drum solo; Robin Swift, euphonium solo (perfect score of 40); Maggie Petersen, flute solo; Jack Gepson, trumpet solo (perfect score of 40 and best of site award); Josh Kuehn, snare drum solo; Laura Popelka, clarinet solo (perfect score of 40 and best of site award); Cole Janke, snare drum solo; Lilly Nikkel, flute solo (best of site award); Lily Kirchoff, snare drum solo; and Anthony LaPlante, snare drum solo.
Receiving an excellent ratings for a band solo was Paul Lemke, snare drum solo.

Jacob Reichow, baritone (perfect score of 40); Jake Fehrenbach, baritone (best of site); Maren Warner, contralto; Elise Petersen, soprano; Emmi Jerabek, soprano; Brandi Pikal, contralto; Dan Cross, tenor; Haley Lukes, contralto.
Receiving a superior rating for a violin solo was Haley Kirchoff.
Receiving superior ratings for vocal ensembles:
Vocal duet (Maren Warner and Haley Lukes).
Madrigal Singers, “Lux Aurumque” and “Throw Open Your Shutters.” Ensemble includes: Elise Petersen, Madison Posusta, Emmi Jerabek, Kasidy Cacka, Faith Rakow, Morgan Dahlke, Beth Cross, Robin Swift, Marissa Kirchoff, Marisa Luchsinger, Laura Popelka, Maren Warner, Jordan Wildy, Megan Fehrenbach, Isaac Swift, Kyle Wanous, Anthony LaPlante, Dan Cross, Jake Vasek, Jake Fehrenbach, Jacob Reichow, Gabe Christensen. The Madrigal Singers also received best in site.
