GSL OKs contract with teachers
After nearly a dozen meetings over the summer and multiple emails between negotiators for the union representing the Glencoe-Silver Lake School District’s teachers and school district, the two sides have approved a two-year contract.
Monday, Sept. 9, the school board unanimously approved the agreement, though Director Jon Lemke, one of the board’s negotiators, missed the meeting. Teachers, represented by Education Minnesota, voted “overwhelmingly” in favor of the proposal, said Brook Magnuson, a high school teacher and union local president.
“We didn’t always agree, but we always agreed we were trying to do what was best for the students,” said Director Jason Lindeman, the other board member negotiating the agreement.
Magnuson said the discussions were always respectful and professional.
