SCHOOL BOARD MEETING MINUTES GLENCOE-SILVER LAKE SCHOOLS -INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT #2859
DATE: May 9, 2022

Board Chair Lindeman called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. The following board members were present: Alsleben, Christianson, Lemke, Lindeman, Luckhardt, and VonBerge. In addition, Superintendent Chris Sonju; Business Manager Michelle Sander; Principal’s Bill Butler and Matt Foss; Assistant Principal Joy Freitag; Administrative Assistant Trisha Zajicek; GSL Technology Staff Mike Morris; Sarah Beckman; Director of Dining Tony Menk; County Chronicle Karin Ramige.
The Board Approved the consent agenda and addendum to the consent agenda; Hiring’s: Kelly Otto LTS Special Ed Teacher until the end of the 21-22 school year, Kelly Otto Early Childhood Special Ed Teacher starting 22-23 school year, Shannon Mattson Elementary Special Ed Teacher 22-23 school year, Shannon Kantack LTS High School DCD until the end of the 21-22 school year; Retirement: Wanda Collins High School English Teacher - Retire after the 2021-2022 school year with the intent to retire/rehire Article IX, section 7 to be rehired in June for the 2022-2023 school year, Ranay Lentsch –Lincoln Elementary Title 1 Paraprofessional, Heidi Nelson –Lincoln Elementary Special Ed Paraprofessional, Resignations; Cierra Anderson –Junior High Student Council, Chris Sonju JH Football Coach, Josh Otto-Fisher JH Football Coach, Tammy Mrkvicka Elementary Fundraising Coordinator, Emily Koehler High School Science Fair/Club Advisor; Termination: Krista Smith Junior/Senior High DCD Paraprofessional; Leave Requests: Mary Christeson –FMLA extension till May 13, 2022,Ariel Markgraf FMLA September 21, 2022 through December 21, 2022.
The Board approved the following: Art/Music Curriculum/Expenditure Proposal, 2021-2022 Summer School Plans, 2 year contract with Activities Director (AD) Dean Schwirtz.
Formal evaluation of Superintendent Sonju will be made by the Personnel Committee at the July 11th board meeting.
The following donations were accepted with appreciation; Silver Lake Lions Club $1,000 Trip Abroad 2022, Chartwells $250 Weekend Backpack Program, GFWC of Silver Lake $100 Trip Abroad 2022, McLeod County Towards Zero Deaths $500 Mock Crash.
Meeting was adjourned at 6:49 p.m.
