GSL tennis: Simons/Christensen take 3rd, Sievert takes fourth at sections
The #5 seeded Panther doubles team of Mariah Gutknecht and Eva Stuewe defeated unseeded LeSueur-Henderson doubles team Koreyann Straub and Teagan Graham in three sets 6-4, 4-6, and 6-1 to move out of the first round. In the second round Gutknecht and Stuewe fell to Holy Family’s #4 seed duo of Sophie Zay and Tali Bellefy 6-0 and 6-1.
GSL’s #3 ranked doubles team of Lydia Simons and Abby Christensen defeated Southwest Christian’s unseeded doubles team Abbie Wolff and Addie Anderson 6-0 and 6-1. Simons and Christensen moved to the second round where they defeated Providence Academy’s #6 seed Brigitta Nelson and Delaney Flanigan 7-6 and 6-1.
Over in singles, GSL’s Anna Sievert, who was seeded #4, defeated Southwest Christian’s #11 seed Rachel Streinieks 6-1 and 6-1 to get to the second round. Sievert moved on to the second round where she defeated Holy Family’s #5 seed Meg Santini 6-1 and 6-4.
With the round one and two wins Simons, Christensen, Sievert moved on to the semifinals on Monday morning.
