Gymnasts place eighth at sectional meet
The 2018-19 season came to a close for the Glencoe-Silver Lake gymnastics team last week as the Panthers placed eighth in the Section 2A championship meet on Thursday, Feb. 15, with a score of 119.950.
Mankato West won the nine-team competition with a score of 140.100 to take the section title over host Waconia, which placed second with 138.750.
GSL's Marissa Greeley missed out on a return trip to this weekend's state Class A championship meet after finishing 10th in floor exercise with a score of 9.000. Greeley qualified for the state meet on floor last season.
Greeley took 18th in the individual all-around competition with a score of 31.800. In addition to her floor placement, he was 21st on the uneven bars at 7.375, 26th on balance beam at 7.400 and 36th on vault at 8.025.
Teammate Gia Venier was 20th in the all-around with a score of 31.050. She scored a 7.350 on bars (22nd), an 8.300 on floor (28th), a 7.200 on beam (32nd) and an 8.200 (33rd) on vault.
Makayla Wigern and Jenna Trippel also competed in all four all-around competitions. Wigern placed 25th at 29.500 and Trippel was 27th with a 27.600.
Breana Templin competed in three of four events to finish 39th in the all-around with a 18.95. Kelsey Rae competed in one event, recording a 6.375 on floor.
