Helen Pessek, 86, of Litchfield

Helen Pessek, 86, of Litchfield, died Sunday, May 8, 2016, at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Litchfield.
 
A memorial service was held Friday, May 6, at First Congregational Church in Glencoe. Interment followed in the Glencoe City Cemetery.
Helen Pessek was born Feb. 26, 1930, in Bergen Township, McLeod County, to Arthur and Clara (Klaustermier) Benkowski. She was baptized March 23, 1930, at St. Peter Lutheran Church by the Rev. J.A. Sehert. She was confirmed at First Lutheran Church on April 18, 1943, by the Rev. Alfred Streufert.
 
She was married to George Anton Pessek on March 31, 1946, at First Lutheran Church by the Rev. Streufert. Mr. Pessek died on Sept. 21 1987. Their union was blessed with five children, Carol Jean, Linda Mae, Susan Marie, Steven George and Gary Jon. Through these five children, Mrs. Pessek was blessed with 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
 
Mrs. Pessek sewed and altered clothes for years and was employed by the Glencoe schools in food service at Helen Baker Elementary for 22 years. She loved playing cards, bingo and the penny slots. She also loved playing right at home on her iPad. She was loved by all; her quick friendship was something to treasure. She will be best remembered by her laughter, smirky smile and quick wit.
 
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Harrison of Litchfield, daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Larry Edinger of Eden Valley, son Steven Pessek of Breezy Point and son Gary Pessek of Wilmington, N.C.; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, and many more family and friends.
 
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Pessek; daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Kenneth Weispfenning; parents, Art and Clara Benkowski; parents-in-law, Frank and Rose Pessek; sister and brother-in-law, Rosella and Donald Arndt; sister and brother-in-law, Lila and Obert Thonvold; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Fred and Neida Pessek; sister-in-law, Mary Jenson; and great-grandson, James Ashfeld.
 
Memorials are preferred to Ecumen Hospice, Litchfield.
