Hello, is anyone listening?
To The Editor,
From the battlefront: Hello, anyone from the MPCA listening; how about any ‘concerned’ lawyers? We would like to remind the community that Bit49 Inc. crypto-currency roars unabated, unmuffled and full throttle. I have heard their preference would be to call their contraptions, “data processors”. However, the earth shakes in our parts every day 24/7. I am amazed that I am still able to put these sentences together or am I so addled by severe noise pollution that I no longer know the difference between full bore oppression and minor inconvenience ~ I do know the difference. Recently in our thus far futile search for help we have discovered that we are not considered “vulnerable adults” or “abused elders”. I’d say we are; however, as a consequence we are offering a house swap with any officials until there is some reasonable adjustment made to this situation.
We understand that there have been ‘stakeholders' meetings to consider our fate. Shouldn’t we be considered as “stakeholders”? There is no one literally as close to this calamity as us? This mechanical crypto-ai neighbor was a cornfield as recently as three or four years ago.
May I speak of money for a bit? The crypto-preneurs are in it to make money; they buy huge amounts of electricity from Glencoe Light and Power. Glencoe sells electricity to make money. Currently both Bit49 (now known as Revolve Labs) and Glencoe stand on the backs of the homeowners and residents of the westside of Glencoe. Property values are appropriately diminished. Sandy Olson's property is diminished greatly; as is, who would buy her severely compromised, noise racked property unless they could steal it? Where’s our cut of the lucre since we bear the brunt of the process? And what of our health and the around the clock, anxious stress we must cope with? Our situation is an eight or nine on a scale of toxicity. In juxtaposition to profit making we’ve only experienced value stealing.
We are also wondering; are property taxes going down due to lesser property values created by this intrusion? And by the way, has anybody noticed a reduction in your electric bill because of the revenues from this business?
After failing two decibel tests over the last year we are told that Bit49 (Revolvelabs.ai) is really going to get serious with expensive remedies to baffle the noise in order to bring the roar into compliance with state decibel standards and that some of the fixes have already been installed. We have been told this more than a few times before, however, we have not noticed any improvement, only greater nausea. Nobody informs us as to what’s in the works unless we insistently inquire. When we ask for updates and compliance we are now told that legal enforcement will be made next spring should decibel standards not be met by the crypto-miners. We would prefer to have the cornfield back; for how can we be assured that we can endure this heinous imposition till spring and will that be the end of the abuse?
