Home folks help Hurricane Harvey victims

Yodee Rivera, a Glencoe Coborn’s employee, along with her aunt Sandra Sanchez and her grandmother Maria Gonzalez, brought local donations to Texas this past week to help support victims of Hurricane Harvey.
Before Hurricane Harvey hit, Rivera, Sanchez and Gonzalez were planning to go to Corpus Christi for a long weekend.
“So our trip kind of got a little ruined,” said Rivera, “But I mean, we had already asked off vacation time and we already had it approved, so we thought we have this time to go, we have this vehicle to go, why not still go and do something?”
After they made this decision, Rivera and Gonzalez got sick, but they didn’t let that stop them from making the trip.
“On Wednesday night (the day before they were planning to leave) we decided we were going to go. It didn’t matter how sick we are, we’re going,” said Rivera. “So that’s when I posted on Facebook in the Life in Glencoe group saying, ‘Hey guys, we’re going down to Texas. I know it’s short notice but if anyone wants to meet me at 10 a.m. at Coborn’s in the parking lot, we’ll be taking donations.’”
Rivera was shocked by all the responses she received. “People started commenting, people starting sharing, a lot of co-workers were putting it on their own personal Facebook … it happened so fast.”
