Impressive opening week for GSL girls
It has been an impressive start to the season for the Glencoe-Silver Lake girls’ basketball team. After dropping the season opener, the Panthers walloped their next two opponents and will carry a 2-1 record into Friday’s matchup at Hutchinson.
“It’s been nice to get a few games under our belt,” coach Jeff Monahan said.
St. Peter continued to be a main nemesis for GSL in the season opener on Tuesday, Nov. 29. The Saints, which began and ended the Panthers’ 2015-16 season with losses, hung another defeat on GSL to commence the 2016-17 campaign in a 74-59 decision.
“St. Peter is a tough team,” Monahan said. “But it was good to play them right out of the gate. Our younger girls were nervous, but settled down pretty quickly.”
Guards Maddie and McKenna Monahan led the way for the visitors in defeat, scoring 20 and 18 points, respectively, while sophomore guard Olivia Lemke recorded six points in her first varsity appearance.
