Inmate briefly escapes from Sibley jail
A man who attempted to escape custody Wednesday, Aug. 23, at about 8:45 p.m., was immediately apprehended, according to the Sibley County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the sheriff’s office, a correctional officer was in the jail lobby retrieving a receipt for an individual who was there to give a urine sample. The officer failed to completely close the door leading to the jail. Once the officer was inside the jail an inmate, Jason Ruehling, 44, caused a disturbance and distracted the correctional officer. Ruehling then made his way outside the jail. He was apprehended immediately across the street from the jail.
Ruehling has been charged with escape from custody and fourth-degree assault from the incident.
An internal investigation is ongoing, according to the sheriff’s office.
