Joan Marilyn Hatlestad, 83, Glencoe

Joan Marilyn (Thompson) Hatlestad, 83, of Glencoe, died Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2017, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 14, at Christ Lutheran Church in Glencoe with the Rev. Katherine Rood officiating. Organists were Peggy Hatlestad and Chris Starr. Randy and Kay Wilson performed “The Lord’s Prayer” and “Be Still For the Presence of the Lord.” Congregational hymns were “Beautiful Savior,” “Jesus Loves Me” and “Lift High the Cross.” Special music was “The Tale From the Vienna Woods.”
Honorary casket bearers were her granddaughters, Tracy Hatlestad, Tiffany Simonson, Tara Neid, Molly Zimmerman, Ashley Mullins and Corina Oaks. Casket bearers were her grandsons, Clint Hatlestad, Andy Hatlestad, Calvin Hatlestad and Joshua Stuewe.
Interment will be at a later date in Cushing Cemetery in Cushing, Wisconsin.
Joan Marilyn (Thompson) Hatlestad was born Jan. 8, 1934, in St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin, the daughter of Adam and Bertha (Ask) Thompson. She was baptized as an infant and later confirmed in her Lutheran faith in West St. Paul, Minnesota. She received her education in St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin, graduating with the St. Croix Falls class of 1951.
On Nov. 2, 1952, she was united in marriage to Dick Hatlestad at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, Iowa. The couple made their home in South St. Paul and Glencoe. Their marriage was blessed with four children, Steve, Tom, Mark and Shelly. On Nov. 23, 1983, she was united in marriage to Armin Rathke at Christ Lutheran Church in Glencoe. They made their home in Brownton.
She was a loving mother and homemaker. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Glencoe. She also was a leader of the Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops, where her children were members, and the VFW Auxiliary.
She enjoyed reading, camping, listening to music and dancing to old-time music. She loved her dogs and always had a “Sammy.” She cherished the time spent with family and friends.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Steve and Peggy Hatlestad of Litchfield, Tom and Diane Hatlestad of Arlington and Shelly and Kevin Neid of Glencoe; daughter-in-law, Linda Hatlestad of Des Moines, Iowa; grandchildren, Tracy Hatlestad, Andy (Erin) Hatlestad, Clint (Lori) Hatlestad, Ashley (Jack) Mullins, Corina (Billy Joe) Oaks,  Calvin (Sundie) Hatlestad, Tiffany (Shaun) Simonson, Josh (Crystal) Stuewe, Tara Neid and Molly (Ryan) Zimmerman; 18 great-grandchildren; stepdaughters, Sheila Pawlicki Rathke, Lisa (Danny) Roberts, Carla (Michael) West and Teresa Nowak Rathke; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Adam and Bertha Thompson; husbands, Dick Hatlestad and Armin Rathke; son, Mark Hatlestad; grandsons, Mark Anthony Hatlestad and Levi Adam Hatlestad; and infant brother, Donald Thompson.
