John ‘Jack’ Parpart, 70, Lester Prairie
John “Jack” Parpart, 70, of Lester Prairie, died Friday, Nov. 3, 2017, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Nov. 9, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie with the Rev. John Grein officiating. Yvonne Schuette was the organist. Special music by Angela Parpart was “Place in the Sun.” Congregational hymns were “Jesus, Lead Thou On,” “My Faith Looks Up to Thee,” “My Hope is Built on Nothing Less” and “God Be With You Until We Meet Again.”
Honorary casket bearers were Mr. Parpart’s nieces, Julie Steinhagen, Jayne Klaustermeier, Rachel Demlow, Jennifer Mielke and Angela Parpart. Casket bearers were his nephews, Mark Klaustermeier, Tom Klaustermeier, Joel Klaustermeier, Nathan Parpart, Jason Mielke, Dan Mielke, Robert Parpart and Charles Parpart.
Interment was in the church cemetery.
John “Jack” Charles Parpart was born April 6, 1947, in Glencoe, to Vernon and Elsie (Zumhofe) Parpart. He was baptized as an infant on April 27, 1947, at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hamburg, and was confirmed in his faith as a youth on March 26, 1961, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie. He graduated from Lester Prairie Public School in 1965.
After graduation, he entered the U.S. Army, serving in Germany and Vietnam. After he completed his four years of service, he came home to Lester Prairie to start farming with his dad, Vernon. In 1980, Vernon Parpart retired from farming, so Jack Parpart and his youngest brother, Jim, went into a partnership in the farming business for 22 years. He then farmed 10 more years with his nephew, Bob, before retiring.
Mr. Parpart enjoyed visiting with people, especially his nieces and nephews. He had a fantastic memory. He could tell you the stats from baseball and football games, when wars started, and remembered stories told to him about relatives from the past. He also enjoyed going to Legion bowling tournaments and going to Pla Mor Lanes and other local bowling alleys to try and perfect his game. He was a gentle man when it came to his farm animals, nursing them back to health with a loving hand. The morning he passed away, he was helping his nephews, Mark and Joel, on the farm. He was a true farmer until the day he died.
He is survived by his brothers and sisters, Julienne Klaustermeier (fiancé Dan Hoen) of Waconia, Willy “Buddy” (Mary) Parpart of Plato, Mary Lou (Ron) Mielke of Glencoe and Jim (Sheila) Parpart of Lester Prairie; nephews, Mark (Nissa) Klaustermeier, Tom Klaustermeier, Joel (Chris) Klaustermeier, Nathan (Mandy) Parpart, Jason (Jamie) Mielke, Dan (Sara) Mielke, Robert (Amy) Parpart and Charles (Summer) Parpart; nieces, Julie (Charlie) Steinhagen, Jayne Klaustermeier, Rachel (Ryan) Demlow, Jennifer Mielke (fiancé Jed) and Angela Parpart; 23 great-nieces and great-nephews; aunts and uncles, Barb Parpart of Lester Prairie, Sarah Buckentin of Glencoe and Harold and Mildred Zumhofe of Hamburg; other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Elsie Parpart; brother-in-law, Virgil Klaustermeier; and many aunts and uncles.
