John Peterson
John Lane Peterson, 76, of Glencoe, died Saturday, May 21, 2016, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care in Glencoe.

Honorary urn bearers were Mark Genz, Jamie Tesch, Sarah Schrupp and Kayla Peterson. Urn bearers were Scott Genz, Matthew Schrupp and Nicholas Peterson.

John Lane Peterson was born Jan. 11, 1940, in Minneapolis, the son of Leonard and Dorothy (Buchanan) Peterson. He was baptized on May 21, 1949, by the Rev. Hamrin, and was confirmed in his faith at Minnewashta Congregational Church in Excelsior. He received his education at and graduated from Minnetonka High School in 1958. He served his country in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged.

On Dec. 30, 1961, he was united in marriage to Sharon Degn at Minnewashta Congregational Church in Excelsior. They made their home in Glencoe, and their marriage was blessed with four children, Barbara, Linda, Laura and David. They shared over 54 years of marriage.

Mr. Peterson worked as a quality control analyst at 3M in Hutchinson for 36 years before retiring. He had many interests, but it can be said most of them were outside. He enjoyed hunting, cutting wood for his beloved campfires where he would entertain all by playing his accordion, woodworking, mowing his lawn, planting trees, etc. He loved the Big Horn Mountains, watching old western movies, caring for and riding his horses in his younger years, and Johnny Cash music. He had a sweet tooth and his favorites were those heavenly long john pastries, and many frequent trips to the Dairy Queen with the grandkids. He could play a mean game of cribbage as well. He will be remembered as a quiet, caring man who, above all, put family first.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon Peterson of Glencoe; daughters and sons-in-law, Barb and Scott Kiewatt of LeSueur, Linda and Robert Schrupp of Winona and Laurie and Doug Johnson of Litchfield; son and daughter-in-law, David and D’Ann Peterson of Zimmermann; grandchildren, Scott Genz, Mark Genz, Jamie (Jonathon) Tesch, Sarah Schrupp, Matthew Schrupp, Kayla Peterson and Nicholas Peterson; great-grandchildren, Zane, Zoe and Zealand Genz, and Easton Genz; sister, Sally Johnson of Bloomington; brother and sister-in-law, Steven and Elizabeth Peterson of Prescott, Arizona; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Caroline Hartman of Waconia, James Degn of Hutchinson, Joyce Drews of Delano, Terry and Rita Degn of Becker and Randy and Mary Degn of Delano; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Dorothy Peterson, and brother, Jim Peterson.

Arrangements were with the Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe. Online obituaries and guest book are available at www.hantge.com.
