Kenneth G. Bauer, 81, of Glencoe

Kenneth George Bauer, 81, of Glencoe, died Saturday, Dec. 24, 2016, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Minneapolis.
Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 30, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe with the Rev. Ronald Mathison officiating. Dawn Wolter was the organist. Congregational hymns were “Away in a Manger,” “How Great Thou Art,” “Amazing Grace” and “Silent Night.”
Honorary casket bearer was Ansley Erhardt. Casket bearers were Christopher Bauer, Lauren Bauer, Jim Bauer, Tim Kloeckl, Jodi Hanslick and Mike Hanslick.
Military honors were by Glencoe VFW Post 5102. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Kenneth George Bauer was born Aug. 15, 1935, in Gaylord, the son of Harry Sr. and Esther (Hoecke) Bauer. He was baptized as an infant Sept. 15, 1935, by the Rev. W. Ulrich, and was confirmed in his faith as a youth by the Rev. G. Mathiale, both at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Gaylord. He attended school in Winthrop, graduating with the class of 1953. In December 1953, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and honorably served his country.
On May 17, 1960, he was united in marriage to Jane Hanslick at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gibbon by the Rev. H.H. Kesting. The couple made their home in Glencoe, and were blessed with two children, Greg and Gwenda. The couple shared over 56 years of marriage.
Mr. Bauer was a mason by trade and worked in the construction industry for many years. He started his career with Zumhofe Construction before joining Schatz Construction, where he worked until his retirement in 1997. He was a longtime member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe, serving on the church council, and often lent his expertise to the church on various building construction and maintenance projects. He also was a member of Glencoe VFW Post 5102, serving as commander from 1975 to 1976.
Mr. Bauer always had a smile — happy and content are the words that describe him best. Family was very important to him and he enjoyed attending many of his children’s and grandchildren’s activities. Both Kenneth and Jane enjoyed dancing, travel and entertaining family and friends at their lake cabin on Big Kandiyohi Lake. He also enjoyed fishing, bowling, snowmobiling, bird watching and doing handyman projects around the house.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Bauer of Glencoe; son Greg (Julie) Bauer of Eagan; daughter, Gwen (Carl) Erhardt of John’s Creek, Georgia; grandchildren, Christopher Bauer and his fiancée, Laura Windholz, of Inver Grove Heights, Lauren Bauer of Eagan and Ansley Erhardt of John’s Creek, Georgia; siblings, Harry Bauer Jr. of Gaylord, Marjorie (Tony) Kloeckl of Arlington and Arline Blood of San Diego, California; brother-in-law, John (Bonnie) Hanslick of Gibbon; many nieces, nephews and other relatives; special friends, Duane and Norene Schuette; and many other friends and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Sr. and Esther Bauer; and sister-in-law, Lucille Bauer.
Arrangements were with the Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe. Online obituaries and guest book are available at www.hantge
