Kevin Simonson: GSL superfan, assistant remembered
A black, purple and silver Glencoe-Silver Lake ball cap sits just inside the front door to Linda Simonson’s house in Glencoe. It is one of dozens of pieces of GSL memorabilia that was part of her husband Kevin’s attire most days, especially when he was going to see his beloved Panthers’ play football, basketball, wrestling, or volleyball.
“Kevin loved all the sports,” said his wife, Linda.
The Panthers lost one of their superfans when Kevin Simonson’s battle with brain cancer came to a peaceful end Nov. 10. He was 61. A visitation will be held Friday, Nov. 22, 4 to 7 p.m., at Christ Lutheran Church, with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue Saturday, Nov. 23, for one hour prior to the celebration of life service at 11 a.m. Per Kevin’s wish, people attending the ceremonies are encouraged to wear their Panthers’ jerseys, sweatshirts or jackets.
