Krueger nears boiling point with Morningside project
Commissioner Doug Krueger, who represents Glencoe on the McLeod County Board, said his support for the Morningside Drive project has dropped to almost zero during a McLeod County Board meeting Tuesday, Feb. 4.
“My support for this project is quite frankly gone,” Krueger said on a harangue, highlighting that the original completion date for the project was in the fall of 2019.
The county board tabled two items surrounding the Morningside Drive project: one to pay the engineering firm Short Elliott Hendrickson (SEH Inc.) $74,000 for unforeseen challenges that arose during project development, and one granting approval of a construction and maintenance agreement to begin work on the Morningside Drive project.
The project, which Commissioner Paul Wright said has been the most controversial road project the county has had in a while, is meant to open Morningside Drive’s intersection with the TC&W railroad tracks north of Highway 212 and extend it north to meet County Road 15. The construction would establish a new road crossing. The railroad tracks are owned by Twin Cities & Western Railroad Company (TC&W).
Total project costs estimates are just under $1.3 million.
