Leo Joseph Mallak, 91, of Silver Lake, died Thursday, Feb. 4, 2016, at Cedar Crest in Silver Lake.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, Feb. 9, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake with the Rev. Paul Schumacher as the celebrant. Alice Nowak was the organist.
Casket bearers were Jason Urban, Michael Mallak, Travis Mallak, Colin McDougal, Ben Wussow and Dan Kieser.
Interment was in the St. Adalbert Cemetery in Silver Lake.
Leo Mallak was born Feb. 21, 1924, in Silver Lake, to Joseph and Rose (Getz) Mallak. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Adalbert’s Catholic Church in Silver Lake.
On July 12, 1949, he was united in marriage to Marietta Kieser and they resided together near Silver Lake, where they farmed and milked cows. Together, they raised seven children and shared 53 years of marriage before Mrs. Mallak’s death in February 2003.
Besides farming, Mr. Mallak drive a sweet-corn truck for Green Giant and later worked at Dura-Supreme in Cokato.
He enjoyed polka music and dancing, gardening, playing with his dogs, and loved family visits and the antics of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was a lifelong member of St. Adalbert’s/Holy Family parishes and was strong in his faith.
He is survived by his sons, Gary (Pam) Mallak, Ron (Jeanette) Mallak, David (Chris) Mallak and Duane (Cheryl) Mallak; daughters, Kathy (Tom) Urban and Carolyn (Jack) Getz; son-in-law, Gary Hennessey; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Pearl Kieser and Corrina Hagen; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marietta; daughter, Susan Hennessey; and his sisters.
