McLeod County receives grant for new election equipment
McLeod County has received a matching grant of $52,024.40 to purchase new voting equipment, the County Board heard at its Tuesday, Feb. 6, meeting. The county will need to match the grant with a minimum of $36,483.85.
County Auditor-Treasurer Cindy Schultz said she hopes to have the equipment in place for use at the Aug. 14 primary election.
A question that needs to be answered, said Schultz, is how or if local precincts — townships, cities and school districts — should contribute to the local match of the cost of the equipment. She said that cost averages out to about $1,800 per voting precinct. Schultz suggested having the topic as a workshop item.
