McLeod County redetermines damages, benefits to some ditches
The McLeod County Board approved redeterminations of benefits and damages of three county ditch systems and one judicial ditch system Tuesday, May 7. They were county ditch 16, county ditch 21, county ditch 40 and judicial ditch 9.
When McLeod County redetermines benefits and damages for its ditch systems, it acts as the drainage authority and conducts on behalf of the ditches — some of which are shared between counties and some of which are entirely within McLeod County lines. The county isn’t fiscally responsible for ditch repairs, but it assesses the cost to benefiting properties. It also can’t make improvements to any ditches — it can only repair.
