McLeod For Tomorrow becomes independent nonprofit organization
The McLeod For Tomorrow Leadership Program will no longer operate under the umbrella of McLeod County, although the county will continue to donate funding for the program.
At its June 6 meeting, the County Board heard that McLeod For Tomorrow has attained its 501c3 status, meaning it is considered an independent, nonprofit organization. That status will allow the program more latitude for raising funds to support the program.
Christy Christensen, a member of McLeod For Tomorrow’s steering committee, said the group would like to separate from the county — meaning that it would contract with the program’s coordinator, rather than the coordinator being a county employee.
Christensen said the coordinator is currently hired for 14 hours per week, and the McLeod For Tomorrow group would like to continue that amount of time in its contract.
He added that the program would like the new arrangement to begin as of July 1.
“This is something McLeod For Tomorrow has been striving for and something we’ve been encouraging them to do,” said Board Chair Joe Nagel.
