Memorial Day services set in Glencoe, area cities

Memorial Day services have been set in area communities for Monday, May 28.
Glencoe — The Glencoe VFW Post 5102 and American Legion Post 95 will co-host a service at 10 a.m. in the Glencoe-Silver Lake High School Auditorium. In addition, the Legion will assist with a memorial service at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church at 9 a.m., and a will provide military honors at St. Pius X.
Plato — The Plato American Legion Post will host a program at 9 a.m. at the Plato Hall.
Silver Lake — Legion and Auxiliary members will gather at the Legion at 10:45 a.m. to walk to the park, where the service will begin at 11 a.m. (if weather is poor, the service will move to the Silver Lake Auditorium). The guest speaker will be Judd Citrowske, senior field operations claim representative for the Minnesota Veterans Services Office. Members of the Glencoe-Silver Lake band program also will perform. A potluck dinner, open to all, will follow at the Legion.
New Auburn — New Auburn Post 7266 and its Auxiliary will host the service at 11 a.m. at the High Island Cemetery in New Auburn. There will be the presentation of colors, a welcome by VFW Post Commander Dan Moore, an invocation by Wilbert Hahn, a hymn, a message by the Rev. Harold Strom, musical selections by GSL music students, a symbolic tribute by auxiliary members, the placing of a memorial wreath by Auxiliary President Phyllis Schwanke, a moment of silence, roll call of deceased veterans, a closing prayer, military tribute, and the playing of “Taps.”
Brownton — The service will be at 10 a.m. at the Brownton Community Center. The guest speaker will be Everett Hantge. A potluck will follow the service; all are welcome.
Stewart — The service will start at 10 a.m. at the veterans memorial in front of the Stewart Community Center. The service will be followed by a potluck dinner.
