Michael ‘Mick’ Cox, 64, of Glencoe

Michael Cox

Michael “Mick” Brian Cox, 64, of Glencoe, died Monday, Nov. 6, 2017, at his home with his family by his side.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday, Nov. 9, at the Church of St. Pius X in Glencoe with the Rev. Paul Schumacher officiating. Sue Mielke was the organist, and Gus and Irene Makovsky were the song leaders. Special music was Paul McCartney’s “Mull of Kintyre.” Musical selections were “Here I Am, Lord,” “On Eagle’s Wings,” “You Are Mine,” “How Great Thou Art” and “Amazing Grace.”
Urn bearers were Randy Sigler, Kevin Koralewski, Steven Nelson and Paul Metza.
Michael “Mick” Brian Cox was born Nov. 24, 1952, in Browns Valley, the son of William and Dorothy (Hammersmith) Cox. He was baptized as an infant at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Browns Valley, and confirmed in his faith as a youth at Holy Rosary Church in Graceville. He received his education at Graceville High School, and furthered his education by attending Southwest Minnesota State University, Jackson Area Vo-Tech and Wadena Area Vo-Tech for telephone communications.
On Oct. 23, 1982, he was united in marriage to Nancy Kallhoff at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Collis, Minnesota. They made their home in Glencoe, and their marriage was blessed with three children, Jackie, Jon and Dan. They shared 35 years of marriage.
Mr. Cox worked for CenturyLink for 39 years as a network technician. He was a member of Church of St. Pius X and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed spending time at the family cabin on Big Stone Lake, especially boating, fishing and having a “short one” by the fire while telling his infamous “dad jokes” and telling stories of the good ol’ days. He also enjoyed working in the yard with his new John Deere tractor and barbecuing. He enjoyed history and was always quick with a random fact. Papa enjoyed any chance he could get to spoil his grandchildren, Ruby and Leo.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Cox of Glencoe; children, Jackie (Matt) Graf of Glencoe, Jon (Lauren) Cox of Glencoe and Dan Cox of Pickstown, South Dakota; grandchildren, Ruby and Leo Graf; siblings and their spouses, Geri and Curt Piechowski and William and Collette Cox; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Dorothy Cox; parents-in-law, Patricia and Leonard Kallhoff; brother-in-law, Kevin Kallhoff; and grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Arrangements were with the Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel of Glencoe. Online obituaries and guest book are available at www.mcbridechapel.com.
