Nagel is new County Board chair, Krueger elected as vice chair
Joe Nagel is the new chair of the McLeod County Board of Commissioners, replacing Paul Wright, who had served as chair the past few years.
Doug Krueger was elected vice chair. The 2016 vice chair was Ron Shimanski.
The motions for both appointments passed unanimously at the County Board’s Tuesday reorganizational meeting.
Before the new year began, retiring Commissioner Sheldon Nies took his place at the dais for the last time as the board closed out its business for 2016. Nies retired after 22 years of service.
Nies noted that he was two inches shorter, 40 pounds heavier, had vision in just one eye, and now walked with a cane — all changes that came in the past 22 years.
“This job is hard on a person,” he joked.
Wright spoke for a few minutes as Nies was presented a plaque, noting that Nies took his job very seriously — but Nies’ put his responsibility to God and his family above all else. That, said Wright, makes for a happy lifetime.
