Open houses set for Armstrong Avenue project

The Glencoe City Council heard that the plan review of the Armstrong Avenue project is moving along at its Monday night meeting.
The city will hold afternoon and early evening open houses on the project on Wednesday, Jan. 6.
City Administrator Mark Larson said the Council will likely set a bid opening date for the project at the Jan. 19 City Council meeting.
In a separate motion, the Council passed a resolution to restrict parking on the east side of Armstrong Avenue from Twin Cities Western Railroad to 11th Street.
The restriction was a requirement by the state due to the width of the street and the fact that the state provides municipal aid funds.
The restriction applies to less than a block.
Council Member Allen Robeck questioned the width of the street in that area, saying he thought it was the same as the rest. Larson said regardless, it was required by the state.
Council Member Kevin Dietz said he didn’t remember anybody ever parking in that area, so the restriction should not be a problem.
Robeck expressed concern that if the state asked for this one restriction, it could come up with other requirements as well.
The motion passed 5-0.
