Panther girls’ hoops takes two to start the New Year

Glencoe-Silver Lake guard Miah Monahan scored a game-high 16 points – all in the second half – as the Panthers topped Jordan 54-48 last week. Monahan also had a double-double in a win at Dassel-Cokato.

It’s been a splendid start to 2019 for the Glencoe-Silver Lake girls’ basketball team. The Panthers commenced their post-holiday schedule with a pair of victories, topping Jordan 54-48 in a crucial section matchup and then besting Dassel-Cokato in the conference opener.
Jordan came to town on Thursday, Jan. 3, with a 1-0 record against Section 2AA North rivals. The Panthers had a bit more subsectional experience under their belt, having gone 3-2 in 2AA North competition.
The game loomed large in the postseason picture, with the teams comprising a three-way battle – along with Tri-City United – for the second spot in the subsectional rankings behind top dog Norwood Young America.
GSL took the initial 2-0 lead, but the Jaguars promptly seized the edge on a three-pointer.
