Panther matmen claim first win of season
The Glencoe-Silver Lake/Lester Prairie wrestling team claimed its first victory of the season during a triangular meet in the GSL gymnasium on Tuesday, Dec. 5.
In its opening meet of the night, the Panthers hung on to defeat Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted 39-34 and earn coach Lance Wurm his 100th career victory.
After going down 6-0 early, GSL/LP rallied with back-to-back wins by fall from Sawyer Varpness at 113 pounds and Aaron Higgins at 120.
Forfeit wins were claimed by Zachary Voelz at 126, AJ Anderson Sanchez at 145 and Keegan Lemke at 152 before Theo Luchiano scored a win by fall at 170 to push the Panthers’ advantage to 36-22.
After both teams forfeited at 182, HLWW made things interesting with consecutive wins by fall at 195 and 220 to draw within two points at 36-34.
