Panthers claim top seed for subsectional tourney

With a 19-1 record and a No. 2 ranking in Class AA, the Glencoe-Silver Lake baseball team turns its attention towards the postseason after an 11-1 defeat of Rockford in its regular-season finale on Monday, May 23.

The Panthers earned the No. 1 seed for the West subsection of the Section 5AA playoff bracket and received a first-round bye. GSL is scheduled to take on either fourth seeded Litchfield or No. 5 Norwood Young America in a second round contest on Tuesday at Maple Lake.

It was a dominant final week of the regular season for the Panthers, with the squad rolling to three victories to wrap up the pre-playoff schedule with a 12-game winning streak.

GSL walloped Annandale 17-4 on Tuesday, May 17, then blanked New London-Spicer 5-0 two days later before Monday’s defeat of Rockford.
