Panthers compete at Sibley East
After a home meet was postponed due to inclement weather on Tuesday, April 25, the Glencoe-Silver Lake track and field teams still managed to get in one competition last week. Both the Panther boys’ and girls’ squads took part in an unscored eight-team meet at Sibley East on Friday, April 28.
Zoe Christensen and Deanna Bondhus led the GSL girls to a near-sweep of the field events. Bondhus won both the long and triple jump events with respective leaps of 14 feet, 9.75 inches and 33-06.
Christensen continued her shot put domination with a throw of 38-01, which was more than three feet further than her closest rival. She also won the discus with a toss of 88-06, which was more than five feet better than the second-place finisher.
On the track, Grace Garoutte took second in the 800-meter dash in a time of 2 minutes, 44.5 seconds, while Kendall Guerrero placed fourth in the 1600-meter run in 6:30.68.
GSL also won the distance medley relay in a time of 7:51.59, and took second in the 4x800-meter relay in 11:33.37. The Panthers’ 4x100- and 4x400-meter relay teams both placed third in respective times of 54.18 seconds and 4:41.19.
For the boys, Kyle Christensen won the 100-meter dash in 11.78, one of three first-place individual finishes for the Panthers on the day.
