Panthers dominate football opener at Foley

It wasn’t a traditional way to begin the season, but the Glencoe-Silver Lake football team made the most out of its trip north to Foley.
Using a couple of time-tested recipes for success, the Panthers used a stout defense and a punishing running game to cruise to a 42-17 victory against their new East Central District rivals.
Despite some opening-game hiccups and jitters, GSL fared well in saying goodbye to the old Wright County Conference West and marching headlong into the new district alignment.
After going three-and-out in their opening drive and allowing the Falcons a field goal on the following possession, the Panthers got down to business.
GSL promptly bettered its initial 3-0 deficit by roaring downfield on a seven-play, 65-yard scoring drive capped off with a 10-yard touchdown run by junior running back Adrian Trevino to take a 7-3 edge and a lead it did not relinquish.
