Panthers fall to Hutch in baseball opener

After several dandy spring days came and went without a ballgame, the Glencoe-Silver Lake baseball team opened the 2017 season on a sunny afternoon against Hutchinson on Friday, April 7 at Vollmer Field.

Starting pitcher Peyton Sell got the season underway with a scoreless first inning before he was touched for a run in the top of the second inning.

GSL returned serve with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third inning to take its first and only lead of the day before the Tigers evened matters with a tally in the top of the fourth.

Sell left after five innings of six-hit, two-walk, three-strikeout work; both runs against him were earned.

Mitchell Boesche relieved Sell in the sixth and fell prey to a Hutch rally that saw the visitors post a pair of runs in both the sixth and seventh innings to take a 6-2 lead into the Panthers’ final at-bat.
